Roger grew up and started his playing career at Chingford CC where he played with his father. He then moved to North Essex and became resident first at Stisted and then Coggeshall where he was active on a number of sporting fronts throughout his life.

Uniquely Roger not only played for Coggeshall Town CC alongside such greats as Harry Wilson and Morris Braiser, often batting at no 3 and complaining of getting pad rash due to the openers obduracy. After his playing career he went to become Chairman and then President of our club. He would regularly entertain work colleagues from Banque Paribas at Cricket Week and continued to regularly spectate and support Coggeshall right up until the 2022 season.

Roger was also a former Captain of Braintree Golf Club and until recently played Badminton at Honywood, golf at The Essex and was a longstanding member of the Randonairres cycling club with rides from Lands End to John O’Groats and London to Paris amongst his achievements.

Roger was also a season ticket holder at Essex Cricket Club and Ipswich Town FC where he watched football with his grandson.

Roger was also a volunteer driver of the Coggeshall Community Bus.

Roger is survived by his son Jon and daughter Karen

Rogers Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday 27th April 2023 at 2pm at St Peter ad Vincula, Coggeshall. Light refreshments afterwards at The White Hart Coggeshall. No black required, unless you enjoy wearing it!
